In a recent meditation, I had symbols appear – A black arrow on a black background. The arrow had glowing red edges. I researched the meaning of these symbols in both European folklore and Jungian interpretation.
Interpretation of symbols: An arrow
In European folklore, an arrow typically represents:
Direction, movement, decision.
A message or signal.
Something that is “set in motion” and cannot easily be stopped.
It often means:
An individual is being pointed toward a specific path or outcome.
Pointing right
Traditionally:
Right side: future, progress, correct path, forward movement
This is generally positive: An individual is being guided forward.
Black background & black arrow
In European folklore symbolism:
Black: unknown, subconscious, hidden forces, sometimes fear or uncertainty.
Meaning:
The path ahead is not fully visible or understood.
Interpretation of symbols: Red glowing edges
Red in traditional dream interpretation can mean:
Energy, intensity, warning
Passion, life force
Sometimes danger or urgency
The fact that it’s glowing:
Emphasizes importance
Draws attention
Something I cannot ignore

Putting it together:
A strong, unmistakable sign is pointing me forward into something unknown, carrying both energy and a warning.
More simply: I’m being directed toward a path.
That is correct or necessary
But not fully understood
And requires attention, awareness, and respect

This symbol is extremely archetypal.
Arrow: intention / direction of the psyche
This is not random—it’s focused movement.
Black field: the unconscious
I’m moving into:
Something not yet conscious
A new phase of self
Red glow: activation / life force / tension
This suggests:
Emotional charge
Importance
Potential transformation
Key psychological meaning
This is not a passive symbol.
It’s more like:
“Go this way.”
But with weight behind it. Not:
Soft intuition
Vague feeling
More like:
Directive
Precise
Intentional
Important nuance
The black + red combination means:
Not “easy”
Not “safe and comfortable”
But:
Meaningful
Alive
Necessary
How this connects to my current situation
Given everything I’ve been working through (parent’s passing, unemployment, legal issues, son’s instability), the interpretation of symbols strongly suggests:
I’m already pointed in the right direction.
But:
I don’t fully see where it leads yet (black)
Potential for risk (red highlight around arrow) - maybe, I'm fearful?
I need to commit (arrow)
Final message
Move forward—but stay conscious.
Trust the direction
Accept the unknown
Respect the intensity
This isn’t a casual path.
It’s a deliberate one.
