Transmuting karma

What is karma?

There are various definitions of karma and the discourse around this topic could fill the many pages of a book. I’m not going to embark on this discourse here. Rather, let’s look at how we evolve from karma.

If we look at karma from a perspective of growth and learning, we can better understand the purpose of karma.

As background info, our souls have come to earth to grow and learn. Whatever we experience while we’re in human form translates into some sort of learning which ultimately translates into a soul’s evolution. Karma is a real part of that learning.

What role does karma play in our life?

An example of choice and the role of karma

Let’s look at an example that can change our karma. We might get a call and find out our father has been diagnosed with an illness. Maybe the illness is cancer.  When an individual is diagnosed with cancer, they need physical, emotional and spiritual care. The universe may present us with the opportunity to care for him while he’s ill.

We can choose to help him or we can choose to not help him. Can you see how the decision to help or not help will impact our karma? We’ll learn something either way – whichever way we choose.

However, if we choose from the heart, then we transmute our past karma. It’s not necessarily that the choice we make is bad or good. Rather, ask ourselves: was the choice from the heart? Did we consult with our higher self? Focusing on the heart can help a person to choose differently than if a person chooses by using the mind.

Transmuting karma

When we come to the realization that we need to choose from the heart – that’s when we transmute our karma. It doesn’t matter what karma we carry. It only matters that we choose from the heart as we progress through our earthly experience.

In essence, karma is not a punishment. It’s a vibration. We’re all here on earth having an experience and we’re achieving a level of spiritual evolution. Karma is a tool to help us continuously grow and evolve.

How do we change our karma?

Part of how we respond as humans is to immediately react from a place of ego. It’s a natural part of who we are. Some people judge, others get angry, others are frustrated, and the list goes on. This is natural.

When we move past these ego-based behaviours, we stop creating karma. If we catch ourselves as we respond from ego – we can make a different choice.

It takes practice to change our behaviours. Changing our behaviours could look something like this:

  1. We must be aware of our responses – e.g. awaken.

  2. We figure out how to respond differently.

  3. We must identify what triggers us.

  4. We must come up with a new response (go within your heart and consult with the higher self and determine a new response)

  5. We must build the HABIT of responding in a new way and do so consistently.

When we reach within ourselves and learn why we respond the way we respond, the behaviour will dissolve. Little by little, we’ll create a new habit. Once we’ve done this, we stop creating karma. When we go to the heart to make decisions, we transmute our karma.

Each situation put before us is an opportunity to learn and evolve. It’s an opportunity to change our vibration. Essentially, our vibration is our karma.

The goal is to live in love, peace and joy and that is some pretty good karma!
